528 kg of cocaine with an estimated value of 37 million seized in Marseille

Customs in Marseille (south) seized on Tuesday 528 kg of cocaine with an estimated value of 37 million euros, the Ministry of the Economy announced in a press release published on Friday.

“Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, and Gabriel Attal, Minister Delegate in charge of Public Accounts, congratulate the customs officers of Marseille, who have just seized 528 kg of cocaine in a container of moving from Martinique. The value of the goods is estimated at 37 million euros on the illicit resale market”, can we read in the press release.

Indicating that the seizure took place on Tuesday August 9 at 7:30 a.m., the container was chosen by targeting to be searched, the press release further specifies.

Thus, according to the press release, in the middle of the furniture, “customs officers discovered a total of 464 packets of cocaine in seats, armchairs, speakers or even trunks”.

The ministry recalls “that a seizure of 71.6 kg of cocaine had been made according to the same type of fraud and in similar circumstances on July 20, still from Martinique”.

“French customs, border and goods administration, daily fulfills its role of protecting our territory and our fellow citizens by preventing criminal networks from bringing dangerous goods into our country,” the statement concludes.

According to data from the Ministry of the Economy, “in 2021, French customs officers intercepted 18.4 tonnes of cocaine”.
